Annette Martha Barton

June 13, 1940 — April 30, 2025

In loving memory of Annette Martha Barton, who graced this world with her remarkable presence from June 13, 1940, until April 30, 2025. Born and raised in the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, Annette was a beacon of strength and independence, embodying the qualities of resilience and love that she imparted to those fortunate enough to know her.

With a robust career that spanned thirty years, Annette dedicated her life to the safety and transportation of the youth within Cobb County Schools. Her unwavering commitment to teaching was surpassed only by her devotion to her family, who were the centerpiece of her existence. Annette cherished her role as a mother to Priscilla Shelton, Patricia Mata, and Mark Vinson, reveling in the joy of witnessing their journeys through life.

As a grandmother to an abundance of grandchildren—Kasranda Medley, Valente Mata, Maria Russo, Angel Vinson, Caleb Shelton, Leilani Shelton, Jacob Shelton, Anslee Shelton, Loniann Shelton, and Josette Shelton—Annette's heart overflowed with pride and affection. Each moment shared with them, whether it be through playful adventures or quiet afternoons spent together, was a testament to the love she so deeply cherished. Her legacy continued to blossom with the arrival of great-grandchildren Savannah McLendon, Jon-Patrick McLendon, Mason Davis, Asher Clark, Chandler Vinson, Easton Shelton, and Airabella Amodeo, not to mention her great-great-grandchild Ridley “Baby T” Anthony, who undoubtedly stole her heart.

A spirited adventurer at heart, Annette found immense joy in the picturesque beauty of Cades Cove in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, particularly during her cherished visits to observe the magnificent bears—an affinity that mirrored her own spirit, strong and wild. She relished in the company of friends, sharing stories and laughter in the warm embrace of camaraderie.

Though she now joins her beloved family in eternal rest—her mother Viola Heard, her father Jim Heard, her son Thomas “Tommy” Slaughter, and her brothers JC Heard, JB Heard, and Jamie Heard—Annette’s indomitable spirit will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.

Annette Martha Barton’s legacy is one of love, independence, and familial devotion, a legacy that will forever enrich the lives of her descendants as they honor her memory and the footprints she has left upon this earth. She will be dearly missed yet embraced in the memories of those she touched, her spirit living on in every shared laugh and whispered story.
