April Lee Garbutt, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered this world on May 15, 1960, in Atlanta, Georgia. She passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Talking Rock, Georgia. April's vibrant spirit and gentle soul will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Those who spent time with April can attest to her warmth, laughter, and the immense love she had for everyone she encountered. Described as a gentle yet strong person, she made it her life's mission to teach her family about kindness, patience, and the boundless capacity to love. April truly believed that if she met you, she loved you, and she exemplified this belief in every interaction.
Her creativity shone through her hobbies; she had a knack for making beautiful flower arrangements, always seeking to bring smiles to others through the gift of flowers. Her crafty skills in arts and crafts allowed her to express her love in even more tangible ways. April had a deep appreciation for music, often reminiscing about her favorite tunes from the big-haired bands of the 80s, such as Motley Crue, 38 Special, and Tesla, which always brought a smile to her face.
April's family reflects on her life with heartfelt memories, stating, "Though you've left this world, your spirit lives on in every memory, every story, and every life you touched. We'll carry your love with us always." Her legacy is preserved not only in the stories shared by those she loved but also through her children, Brett Smith and Steven Smith (Caprice), who will continue to honor her values. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Ellie MaKayla Smith, Bremen Michael Clearwater, Matthew Yuhas, Dustin Smith, Chyan Smith, and Charlie Smith, as well as her great-grandchildren, Juwan Garret Swain, known affectionately as "Tank," and Aurora Rose Cane.
April is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Reaford Reid, and her sister, Kathy Garbutt. She is also survived by her sister, Missy Julie Kutzen (Larry), along with many friends and extended family members who will miss her dearly.
