Barbara Fields Solow, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, leaving behind a life rich with warmth, kindness, and countless memories.
Born in Oklahoma on October 15, 1942, Barbara lived with an energy and style completely her own—a story woven from her passions, her family, and her boundless capacity to make others feel uniquely special.
Barbara’s early years in Oklahoma laid the foundation for a lifelong curiosity and love of learning. She earned her bachelor’s degree in political science at Oklahoma State University, an accomplishment that reflected both her intelligence and determination. Her mind remained sharp throughout her years—evident in her love of crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy! (and knowing most of the answers) and playing bridge every chance she had. She was a keen and exceptionally skilled bridge player, and she delighted in the camaraderie and the challenge that the game presented, savoring every moment spent in the throes of friendly competition.
Barbara never met a stranger—her warm spirit and sincere compliments endeared her to nearly everyone who crossed her path. She took genuine pleasure in picking out her outfits, thoughtfully coordinating her clothes and accessories, and praising someone else’s style. Barbara effortlessly brought a little color, happiness, and personality to each day.
Her love of life was matched only by her love of family. Barbara was a homemaker during her children’s school age years, creating memories that would remain with them throughout their lives. Later in life, she was the infamous Instagram roommate of her daughter, and the college-football-watching partner of her son.
Barbara’s daily pleasures included the simple things, like ‘relaxing’ (code for planning her next purchase) with the Home Shopping Network, having an occasional steak dinner from Stone River or barbecue chicken from Williamson Brothers, or the Joy of selecting just the right nail color during her mani-pedi appointments. Above all, being present in the lives of those she loved was her greatest pleasure, including her caregiver of many years Bonnie, and also her ‘boyfriend’ Ian.
Barbara is survived by her devoted daughter Rachel; her cherished son Robert, his wife Stephanie; her grandchildren Liem, Emma, and Kevin; her treasured sisters Tedra, Carol, and Maggie, many nieces and nephews; and chosen family Danielle and Jadan. Each of them forever brightened by her generosity and affection, a testament to the impact she made in their lives.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Louise; her doting husband and true love of her life, Ronald; her sister, Charlotte; and her brother, Gary.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Barbara at a graveside service on August 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Fields Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
To have known Barbara Fields Solow was to know someone who found beauty and delight in everyday life. She loved generously, complimented sincerely, laughed readily, and faced the world with wisdom.moxie, and style. She had a way of making people feel a little better about themselves simply because she was there.
Her absence will be deeply felt, but the warmth she gave so freely will remain in the hearts of the many people fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Heart Association in Barbara's memory. https://www.heart.org
