With heavy hearts and abiding love, we remember Betty Hunter Jenkins, who passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on January 3, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, Betty’s vibrant spirit touched every life she encountered—each friendship forged as effortlessly as a warm conversation.

Betty found joy in painting and ceramic and sharing her creations with family and friends. Her love for yellow roses and all things colored purple—her favorite color, which came to symbolize the warmth and comfort she brought to those around her.

Betty never met a stranger. With a heart open to every soul, she found delight in the simple pleasure of talking with new friends. Long car rides with her devoted husband Roger were some of her greatest joys, and their adventures often led them to many fishing spots, where they laughed and enjoyed being with each other.  Spotting red birds brought a sparkle to her day; a subtle, cheerful reminder of life’s small wonders.

Above all, Betty loved her family more than anything else in this world. Her devotion as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was unwavering and pure. She leaves behind her loving husband, Roger Jenkins, whose partnership and companionship through the years stood as an unwavering pillar of their family.

Her memory lives on through her cherished children: Charles Hargitt and his wife Diane; Pam Travis; Roxanna Ferguson and her husband Wade; Tamela Cunningham and her husband Jon; and Melissa Schuster. She is remembered lovingly as “Grandma” by Amanda Travis, Daniel Travis, Nathaniel Ferguson, Hannah Ferguson, Candice Cunningham, Trevor Cunningham, Casey Wright, and Michael Williams. The next generation, her great-grandchildren—Elizabeth and Noah Travis; Ryel, Griffin, Sloane, and Crosby Ferguson; Felix Jaimes; Trenton, Tristen, and Tinsley Cunningham; Weston and Wrenleigh Wright—carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.

Betty was deeply loved by her friends and extended family who will hold her in special remembrance.

She now reunites with those who passed before her: her brothers, Richard and Solomon Hunter; her beloved mother, Flora Hunter; her son, Kenneth Hargitt; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Hunter; and her niece, Connie Hunter.

Her family and friends carry her in their hearts, her love of simple joys, and her gift for making everyone feel welcome—these are the legacies Betty leaves to those who will miss her every day.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 29, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Life Church at Trinity, 239 Allred Mill Rd, Jasper, GA 30143. All who were touched by her kindness are welcome to join in honoring a life so well lived.

Betty Hunter Jenkins' life reminds us that love is measured not in grand gestures, but in the daily acts of caring, the laughter shared, and the beauty we notice in the world. Her story is not only preserved in memory, but in every heart that had the privilege to know her.
