Billy Clanton Cash, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on January 22, 1928, in Millport, Alabama, Billy carried the strength and spirit of that small town with him throughout a remarkable life that spanned nearly a century.

Billy’s story was never just his own—it was the story of family, dedication, service, and a deep love for the simple joys of life. The son of Charles Vaughn Cash and Ludie Irene Cash, both of whom preceded him in death, Billy was raised with strong values and a sense of duty that would guide him through all of life’s chapters. He also mourned the loss of a beloved daughter, Diane Cash Dunaway, as well as two brothers and three sisters who left indelible marks on his heart.

For 62 years, Lexington, Mississippi, was home to Billy, a community he cherished and served in so many ways before moving to Fairmount in February 2026. Throughout his years in Lexington, Billy was a proud deacon at First Baptist Church, earning the respect and admiration of all who worshiped alongside him.

Billy’s professional journey spanned 40 devoted years at the Mississippi Valley Gas Company. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his colleagues and community. But it was outside the office, under the open sky, that Billy flourished most. He was an expert fisherman and hunter, endlessly patient and always eager to share his knowledge. His legendary bountiful vegetable gardens were the envy of many and a gift to friends and neighbors alike.

A proud veteran, Billy served his country with honor as a member of the US Army—a duty he upheld with humility and pride. He was also deeply involved in the local Lions Club, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to whoever needed it.

Billy’s athleticism and love for sport were recognized when he was elected to the Millport Alabama Sports Hall of Fame for football, basketball, and baseball. These achievements spoke to his competitive spirit, teamwork, and discipline—traits he instilled in those he loved most.

Family was the foundation of Billy’s life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maxine Bradford Cash, whose partnership illuminated every day. Together they raised sons Dale Cash and Dennis Cash, whose lives have been shaped and inspired by their father’s example. His daughters-in-law, Barbara and Donna, held Billy in great affection; he treasured their bonds. Billy’s love radiated even further to his seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each one a source of joy and pride. He found immense happiness in watching them grow, teaching them to fish, sharing stories, and passing on pieces of the world he cherished.

Billy’s incomparable ability to love, to give, and to find beauty in life’s quiet moments leaves a legacy etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

A private family memorial service will be held at Petit Lake, a fitting tribute to a man who treasured the peace of nature and the company of loved ones. Billy Clanton Cash will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, his generosity, and the unwavering devotion he showed to his family, his friends, and his faith.
