Charles Edwin
Horton, Sr.
September 10, 1946 – May 12, 2026
Charles Edwin Horton, Sr. “Pops”- was a man who didn't need many words to fill a room. His presence was enough. Gentle in spirit, and unwavering in his devotion to the people who mattered most, Charles passed from this world on May 12, 2026, leaving behind those who loved him will feel for the rest of their lives. He was born September 10, 1946, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and lived every one of his years with purpose.
He answered his country's call with pride, serving in the United States Army during a time when that commitment asked everything of a young man. That service never left him, it lived in the way he carried himself, in his steadiness, in the quiet dignity that defined him long after he came home. He was deeply proud to have served, and those who knew him were proud of him for it.
Charles was a devoted husband to the late Gayle Nelson Horton, whose memory remained a tender and constant presence in his heart.
Pops never missed a single sporting event in his grandsons' lives — not one. He was always trackside in the dust and noise of every dirtbike race, and everyone who showed up knew Pops. He cheered for Gray and Preston, the way he cheered for his Braves and his football teams — with his whole heart. He was their greatest fan, their Pops.
Every morning began the same way — a big cup of black coffee, no exceptions. It was as much a part of him as anything else, that quiet start to the day.
For a quiet man, Charles had a gift for finding his people. He was a social butterfly in the truest sense; drawn to good company & live music, especially blues music. Blues had a way of bringing out a side of Pops that words rarely could. That music still fills the room during dinner. It always will.
He is survived by his son, Charles Edwin Horton, Jr. "Chuck," his daughter-in-law Nonna, and his two beloved grandsons, Gray and Preston — the great joys of his life.
Care of the Horton Family has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
