David Edward Bingaman passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026 at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving children.

David was born in Anderson, Indiana to William Edward Bingaman and Julia Ellen (Kennedy) Bingaman. After graduating from Anderson High School, he attended the University of Tennessee on a golf scholarship and graduated in 1963 with a B.S. in Agronomy. He went on to earn his Master of Science in Soil Physics from Purdue University in 1969.

Following his studies, David directed design, construction and maintenance teams in golf course, athletic field, racecourse and land development projects. His notable projects included the restoration of the natural grass field at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, design of the 54-hole golf course at The Pinery CC in Colorado, design and construction management for Turf Paradise thoroughbred racetrack in Arizona and design of rootzone for athletic fields at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. 

From 1982 until his retirement in 2005, David owned and managed Intermountain Golf Course Management Group, which operated and maintained Stansbury Park Golf Course and St. George Colf Club in Utah.

David met Barbara Lubovich in Longmont, Colorado, and they were married in 1969. Together, they made their home in Bountiful, Utah where they raised their three children. Though their marriage later ended, David and Barbara made peace with one another in later years, and Barbara was a tremendous support for him and their children in his final days.

Highly intelligent and gifted with phenomenal wit and wisdom, David was known for his great sense of humor and a photographic memory. David’s talents were many; he was an engaging storyteller, a competitive golfer, and a “human GPS” – he seemed to remember every place he had ever been. Above all, he was a beloved friend, father and grandfather. 

An adventurer at heart, David possessed a passion for traveling the country by car. His love of the open road traced back to 1946, when he took a cross-country train ride with his grandmother from central Indiana to Los Angeles. That early spark grew into a lifelong quest: visiting every single county in the continental United States. It was a journey he pursued for over 40 years, a county at a time, on business trips and family vacations with his family often along for the ride. Every time he visited a new county, he would highlight it on his master map. He completed the odyssey in 2006 and said he’d never found any place that didn’t have its own brand of beauty. 

David is survived by his former wife Barbara Kirk and their three children; Julie (Darren) Faddis, Patricia Dunn and David (Minta) Bingaman. He was beloved “PopPop” to his seven cherished grandchildren; Aden, Hannah, Ryan, Samantha, Preston, Maive and Caleb.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at the Stansbury Park Clubhouse, Stansbury Park, UT on Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to come share memories and celebrate a life exceptionally well-lived. Go Vols!
