If you looked up “Life of the Party” in the dictionary, you would likely find a picture of Edward Harris beside it.

Edward, affectionately known as Ed, was proud of his Doraville, Georgia, roots. He graduated from Sequoyah High School in 1988 and went on to graduate from Jacksonville State University in 1992.

Ed lived a life filled with adventure, laughter, and lasting friendships. He spent several years on Kwajalein Island in the South Pacific, working as a high-speed videographer. During his free time, he developed a love for the ocean and earned numerous scuba diving certifications. He fell in love with the island, its waters, and the people he met along the way. Many of those friendships lasted a lifetime, including a special group affectionately known as “The Barnacles.”

Following his time on Kwajalein Island, Ed’s career took him to Huntsville, Alabama, where he continued his work at Redstone Arsenal. It was during this chapter of his life that he married his best friend, Amy. Together, they enjoyed traveling abroad, with their adventures often including a beach and plenty of music.

Ed’s love for music was legendary, especially when it came to his favorite band, Rush. It was nearly impossible to mention Ed without mentioning Rush in the same conversation. His love for the band was rivaled only by his love for his dogs, two of whom he named after members of the band.

After a fulfilling career in videography, Ed decided to turn his passion toward something new. As he might have put it, after years of squeezing every bit of enjoyment out of videography, it was time to start squeezing grapes! He attended Washington State University, where he earned certification in enology and viticulture. He went on to spend decades working in wineries, producing award-winning wines and sharing his knowledge with others. As with every chapter of his life, Ed made lasting friendships wherever he went.

Ed will be remembered for his infectious humor, entertaining antics, adventurous spirit, and ability to make those around him laugh. Although his time here was far too short, the memories and friendships he created will live on.

Among those who held a special place in Ed’s heart are his former wife, Amy; his sister, June, and her husband, Peter; his brother, Sam; and his nieces and nephews.

Ed, your smile, humor, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed. Thank you for the laughter, the adventures, the friendships, and the knowledge you so generously shared.

Ed lived with Crohn’s disease, and those wishing to honor his memory through a charitable contribution may consider making a donation to the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. https://www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org.  Such a gesture would have meant a great deal to him.

Care of Ed has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
