Houston Cecil Pursley, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on January 7, 1957, in Dunlap, Tennessee, Houston was known for his immense kindness and gentle spirit, earning him the reputation of being "a good ol' boy."

Throughout his life, Houston was a dedicated trim carpenter, an esteemed profession he pursued for 50 years before retiring. His love of building and creating was complemented by his passion for yard work and watching old westerns, which brought him much joy.

Houston's warmth and devotion shone brightest in his role as a grandfather. He took great pride in his family, considering his greatest accomplishment simply being a PawPaw. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Wanda Spencer, and his son-in-law, Dru Spencer; his beloved son, Clint Pursley, along with his daughter-in-law, Emmy Pursley; and his six adoring grandchildren: Samuel Spencer, Andrew Gaylor, Alex Spencer, Samantha Gaylor, Amelie Pursley, and Aythan Pursley. In addition to his immediate family, he also leaves behind his brother, Allen Pursley, and his favorite granddog, Bailey Kate, who brought him endless joy and companionship (even if he wouldn't allow her in his room).

While sitting around the kitchen sharing stories, the morning of his passing, the family smiles as they remember the silly quarks that made PawPaw who he was. Like the words he made up, or how he would greet you in the morning with just a head nod and a, "ummhumm." He was a quiet man who said a lot not through words, but with actions. He was the first to show up to fix something broken, rebuild something destroyed, or just to lend a helping hand as he could.

Houston's memory will forever be cherished, and one fond memory that stands out was captured in a photograph taken while he prepared for his daughter’s wedding—an image that encapsulates his spirit and love for his family.

Though Houston has requested no service, his wish was not for a somber farewell but rather for his ashes to be returned to Tennessee, laid to rest on the side of the mountain he called home. In honoring his desire, his family hopes to celebrate his life in their own private way.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Florence Pursley Harris; his stepfather, Clinton Harris; and his brothers, Eddie Joe Pursley and Richard Langdon. Their loss is felt deeply, yet Houston's legacy lives on through the love and memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.

The family has no need of assistance or flowers. If you would like to make a donation to help with the final arrangements, you may do so directly to the family.

Care of Houston and his family has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
