Husband. Father. Grandfather. Brother. Son. Friend. Those are the relationships most cherished by Greg Johnson, who passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home this spring, leaving behind cherished memories and the comfort born of faith.

James Gregory Johnson, 76, died at his home in Big Canoe Ga., on March 9 after a brief illness. A native of Winfield, Alabama, Greg is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dianne; four children, Shellie M. Branham (Mitch) of Elgin, S.C., Leanne Mauldin (Grant) of Cumming, Ga., Jennifer Johnson (Scott) of Kelso, Wash., and David G. Johnson (Catalina) of Boca Raton, Fla. Greg also enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Sophia, and six grandsons, Jimmie, Sam, Sean, Walker, Seth, and Noah.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie and Johnnie Johnson of Winfield, Ala., and is survived by a sister, Suzanne Johnson, of Montgomery, Ala.

Greg attended Walker College in Jasper, Ala., and proudly served in the National Guard for more than a decade while working his way up at Delta Air Lines from a ticketing position to a senior supervisory role in marketing. In addition to his thirty-plus years at Delta, Greg also earned his designation as a Certified Travel Consultant, which allowed him to work as the northeastern regional manager. He also maintained a travel agency throughout his career and during the early years of retirement while finding time to golf and enthusiastically cheer on Alabama Crimson Tide football. He had a calm demeanor that belied a sharp sense of humor.

During their long marriage, Dianne and Greg became inveterate travelers, enjoying the warm waters of the Caribbean and sharing adventures like zip lining through jungles and riding camels in the desert (although there are rumors that Greg chose to walk alongside the camel while Dianne climbed on while family was at the center of Greg’s love, his faith was both his hope and at the depth of who he was. So, it is only fitting to say goodbye with the words from St. Paul writing in Thessalonians: “We do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.”

The family invites you to join us as we celebrate his life. Saturday, April 25, 2026. 11:00 AM. Trinity Church, 2685 Steve Tate Hwy, Marble Hill GA. 30148.

Together, we will remember, share stories and celebrate the life of a man who meant so much to so many.
