IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jason Robert
Heffernan
June 18, 1978 – December 23, 2025
In loving memory of Jason Robert Heffernan, who graced this world with his presence on June 18, 1978, and whose journey concluded on December 23, 2025. Born in the city of Missoula, Montana, Jason spent his formative years in Deer Lodge, loving his childhood summers spent at Placid Lake. Jason moved with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada at the start of fifth grade. During his junior year, Jason, sister Ashley, and Mom spent one semester in New Zealand and Australia while Mom finished her bachelor’s degree in Education. A very unique experience for all. Jason then graduated from Silverado High School with honors—a testament to his dedication to education and a reflection of his vibrant intellect.
A proud patriot, Jason answered the call to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps, embodying duty and honor with an unwavering spirit. Following his service, he pursued higher education at the University of Nevada Reno, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. Jason also studied at Winston-Salem State University pursuing a Masters in Genetic Algorithms. These academic achievements were a testament to his love of learning and knowledge. One notable highlight of Jason's illustrious life was the rare opportunity to engage with the brilliant Stephen Hawking in Cambridge University, Oxford, England; a moment he treasured.
Jason was not only defined by his academic pursuits but also by a generous heart—a heart that reached out to others in remarkable ways. His selfless act of donating bone marrow to a stranger exemplified his commitment to fostering life and hope in those around him.
An adventurous spirit at heart, Jason found joy in the depths of the ocean as he embraced the art of scuba diving. Each dive was more than just an exploration of the underwater world; it was an opportunity for connection, both with nature and with himself.
Jason loved learning something new above almost everything else, and being surrounded by the nature of north Georgia. Watching the wildlife and hiking its mountains gave him great joy. He shared this with his loving partner of 12 years, Carrie Sedgman, and together they enjoyed living on their land building a home filled with care and intention.
The gentle spirit of Jason touched the lives of many, characterized by an innate kindness and a compassionate demeanor. He is survived by his loving parents, Janice and Joe Heffernan, his devoted sister Ashley, his nephew Mason, as well as his treasured Grandmother, Kathy Stelling. He leaves behind his partner, Carrie Sedgman, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; each of whom carry forward the legacy of his kindness.
Now, alongside those who have departed before him—his maternal grandfather, John Stelling, and his paternal grandparents, Joe and Helen Heffernan—Jason takes his place in eternal rest. His memory, like the gentle waves of the ocean and the quiet mountains he so loved, will continue to shape the hearts of those he has left behind. His love of learning, his compassion for all living things, and an unwavering desire to make a positive difference will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service honoring Jason’s life will be held at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial in Boulder City, Nevada at a later date.
