Jerry Mitchell Ingram passed away on March 16, 2026, at age 77, after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Susan Tatum Ingram, sons Michael Ingram (Debbie) and Gregory Ingram, grandchildren Emma andMatthew Ingram, sister Kathy Strickland. He was preceded in death by his parents Louise Rainey and Nat Ingram, his sister Sue (David) Baker, and his half siblings Louise Green, Frances Wilson, Shirley McClain, and Jimmy Ingram.
Jerry was born in Cartersville, GA and spent his childhood living in Atco Village. He was a 1967 graduate of Cartersville High School, Reinhardt College, and a 1972 graduate of West Georgia College majoring in accounting and finance. He servedsix years as a member of the US Army National Guard. His professional career was spent working for several local companies in the carpet industry, ending with 25 years at Shaw Industries in Dalton.
Jerry’s love of music followed him his entire life. From learning cornet and trumpet in grade school, to teaching himself saxophone, to participating in several local music and band groups, Jerry was always playing music. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church orchestra, Etowah Jazz Society, Northwest GA Winds, Rome New Horizons Band and an oldies band, Eastern Seaboard, that began in 1969 as The City Lights and then The Lemon Stones.
After retirement, Jerry found a new passion in woodworking. He spent days in his personally designed workshop creating beautiful period American furniture pieces which fill his home today, as well as many expertly crafted boxes and containers of all kinds, some with secret compartments to delight recipients of his gifts. Jerry was a true artisan, patient and precise. He was a member of Wood Workers Guild of Georgia and the Peach State chapter of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers(SAPFM).
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cartersville, led by Pastor Leigh Jones, Brent Tatum and Scott Panter. Family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
