IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joeita
Pearson
October 30, 1927 – February 18, 2026
Joeita Pearson, a beloved matriarch whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at the age of 98. Born on October 30, 1927, she lived a life filled with determination, wisdom, and an unwavering love for her family.
Joeita was a proud member of both the Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls, organizations that reflected her commitment to community and service. A graduate of Reinhardt University and Oglethorpe University, she dedicated her career to education, inspiring countless young minds as a teacher at Smyrna and Belmont Hills Elementary Schools in Smyrna, Georgia. Her legacy as an educator was matched only by her deep faith, as a devoted member of the 2nd Baptist Church in Smyrna.
Known for her strong will and sharp intellect, Joeita was the kind of person who faced challenges head-on, always tackling them with grace and grit. Her family remembers her as "smart as a whip," a determined soul whose kindness knew no bounds. The love she radiated throughout her life was felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Joeita found her greatest joy in her family, celebrating milestones and creating cherished memories with them. She is survived by her loving daughter, Carolyn Pearson Lockhart, along with her cherished grandchildren, Wendy Lockhart and Duane Lockhart, who is married to Judy. Her great-grandchildren, Chasity Freeman (Ashley Hughes, Husband), Matthew Freeman, and David Freeman (Rachel, wife) brought her immense pride and happiness. The joy of great-great-grandchildren Llana, Zeppelin, Bexley Hughes, Maddie, Ali Freeman, Cole, and Wade Freeman warmed her heart further.
She leaves behind her brother Bobby Cochran, along with many nephews and nieces, all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Joeita was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl T. Pearson, her parents Newell and Cora Tatum Cochran of Waleska, Georgia, and her siblings Dorthy Cochran Ponder and Jack Cochran.
As we reflect on the life of Joeita Pearson, we are reminded of her unwavering love for her family and her impactful contributions to the community. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing her.
Care of Joeita has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
