John Devanie Dillon, Sr., aged 85, peacefully walked through the gates of heaven into the hands of his Creator on December 23, 2025, at Piedmont Hospital in Ellijay, Georgia. Born on May 4, 1940, in Robbinsville, North Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late Paul and Tennie Dillon. John was a man whose heart was filled with love and compassion, leaving an indelible mark on both his family and the Fairmount community.
A proud graduate of Norcross High School, where he excelled academically, John continued to shine as a top graduate of a four-year college program. His commitment to education and excellence was evident throughout his life. For an impressive 43 years, he served as the sales manager for North Georgia with Vulcan Materials Co., dedicating himself to exceptional service and remarkable leadership. His work was not merely a job, but a testament to his integrity and determination.
John's hobbies brought him joy and fulfillment. He cherished moments spent bowling, enjoyed the thrill of golf, and occasionally indulged in trips to the casino. These activities were a reflection of his lively spirit and love for life, always eager to create memories with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mary Humphries Dillon, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms and His loving daughter Debi Densmore. John is lovingly remembered by his devoted daughter, Paula (Garry) Hill of Blairsville, Georgia, his son John Dillon Jr. of Fairmount, Georgia, and his treasured grandchildren, who were the light of his life: Ansley Underwood of Ellijay, Georgia; Melissa (Dustin) Smith of Dalton and their children Destiny, Dillon, and Daylin; Jay and Elizabeth Densmore of Cartersville and their daughter Molly; and Brittni (Ryan) Branham, also of Cartersville, and their daughter Lily.
In celebration of John's life, family and friends will gather for visitation on December 29, 2025, at "In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers" in Fairmount, where he will be honored with love and stories that speak to his kind and gentle spirit. This visitation will take place from 1 PM to 3 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3 PM, led by Jamie Hunt of Snoriville Baptist Church alongside Dustin Smith.
John's warmth and kindness will be irreplaceable, and his family finds comfort in his familiar words, “Hold it in the Road.” As they face this immense loss, they remember him not just for his achievements but for the way he made everyone feel valued and loved.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know you.
