John Doug Stevens passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, just days before his 76th birthday, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, dedication, and adventure. Born on August 22, 1950, in Towns County, Georgia, Doug’s life was one of rich experiences and quiet yet steadfast commitment to the people and passions that defined him.

Doug had a true gift for making life an adventure. His early years in North Carolina and Georgia were filled with music and the laughter of family, igniting a love for song that would carry through his life. Whether playing his favorite melodies, exploring the world, or marveling in the company of horses and birds, his curiosity and sense of wonder knew no limits.

Sports played a special role in Doug’s youth; his teammates at Mars Hill College remember him as a steadfast and spirited football player, whose camaraderie and determination shone both on and off the field. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he found purpose in sharing his talents with others—teaching and coaching at Andrews High School in Andrews, North Carolina, inspiring countless students with his gentle guidance and unyielding patience.

Doug’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a business owner, and later, his expertise guided him across the globe. As a safety engineer for the PT Tripatra engineers and contractors , Doug’s work took him to Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, and Minas, Riau, Indonesia. He approached each new horizon with openness and humility, earning the respect and friendship of those he worked alongside until his well-deserved retirement in March 2013.

Through all of his journeys, Doug’s greatest joys remained his family. He is lovingly remembered by his granddaughter, Anna Corrinne Brown, who brought light and laughter into his life. Doug’s siblings—Claude Dennis Stevens, Richard Floyd Stevens (with wife Shirley), and James Darrell Stevens (with wife Joyce)—along with his sister-in-law, Ann Stevens, mourn his passing, cherishing decades of memories and the deep bonds of kinship. Many nieces and nephews recall his warmth, steady encouragement, and the stories he would share, creating a family tapestry rich with love.

Doug now joins those whose loss he bore with grace: his parents, Carter and Ruth Stevens; his beloved daughter, Jennifer Paige Stevens; and his brother Don Stevens, Ann’s late husband. Their reunification, be it in memory or spirit, brings gentle solace to those he leaves behind.

What made Doug remarkable was not only the breadth of experiences that shaped his life but the quiet strength, laughter, and compassion with which he approached each day. Those who knew him will remember his songs, his wisdom, and his generous heart. The world feels quieter with him gone, yet his presence lingers in shared memories, in the lessons he taught, and in the kindness he extended so freely.

As per Doug’s wishes, there will be no formal service. His family and friends will carry forward the great treasure of his memory, each in their own way, honoring the man who touched their lives so deeply.
