Luby C. Best, Jr., of Ellijay, Georgia, formerly of Brooksville, FL, passed away on June 23, 2025, at the age of 78 in Blue Ridge, Georgia. Born on July 14, 1946, in Goldsboro, North Carolina, he lived a life that exemplified dedication, love, and service.
Luby served his country as an Army Corporal during the Vietnam War, where he was honored with two Bronze Stars for his bravery and commitment. His military service remained a source of pride for him throughout his life, and he carried the values instilled in him by this experience into his civilian career.
Professionally, Luby dedicated many years to the grocery industry, holding positions as a Manager for A&P Grocery Store and Assistant Manager for Publix Grocery Store. His strong work ethic and leadership skills left a positive mark on those he worked with, as he strived to foster a sense of community in his workplace.
A devout Baptist, Luby's faith played an integral role in his life, guiding his actions and relationships. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he cherished the moments spent with his family. He had a deep affection for his wife of 58 years, Sandra Best. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories.
Luby found joy in a variety of hobbies, with fishing and softball being some of his favorite pastimes. He was known for his competitive spirit, both on the field and in life, but above all, his greatest passion was for his family. He took immense pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, including his daughter, Robin (John) Seiwell; his son, Sam Best; and his treasured grandchildren, Crystal Seiwell, Kayla Best, and Kody Best.
Luby is preceded in death by his father, Luby Best; mother, Katie Best; sister, Louise Vincent; and brother, James (Jimmy) Best. His legacy of love, kindness, and commitment to family and faith will be remembered by all who knew him.
As we celebrate the life of Luby C. Best, Jr., let us remember a man who served his country honorably, embraced his family wholeheartedly, and lived each day with purpose and joy. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
