Margaret Deborah Godfrey, a compassionate soul whose life was defined by her unwavering dedication to caring for others, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2026. Born on October 9, 1946, in Atlanta, Georgia, Margaret spent nearly eight decades touching the lives of those around her with kindness and a steady, gentle spirit.

Margaret’s professional journey was marked by a steadfast commitment to healing and support as a long-time surgical technician. Her skilled hands and calming presence were fixtures at Georgia Baptist, Gwinnett Medical, and Northside Hospital, where countless patients found comfort and expert care through her work. It was in this role that Margaret found some of her proudest accomplishments, dedicating her career to the delicate art of caring for others with both precision and heart.

Outside the hospital walls, Margaret found joy in the simple and serene pleasures of life. She loved the beach, where the sound of the waves and the feel of the sand brought her peace and happiness. Cruises were another cherished pastime, offering her opportunities to explore new horizons and create lasting memories fueled by her love for adventure and discovery.

Margaret’s family remains a central part of her enduring legacy. She is survived by her beloved brother, Bennett Hodges, and sister-in-law, Judy Hodges, of Hendersonville, Tennessee. The warmth of her family extends to her nieces, Deidra Steng and Andrea Martin of Jasper, Georgia, who carry forward the spirit and love that Margaret lovingly shared.

Her passing also brings a moment to remember those who went before her: her father, Edgar B. Hodges Sr., her mother, Margaret M. Hodges, and her sister, Connie H. Kelly, who passed away in 2004. Their memories live on intertwined with Margaret’s own, forming a tapestry of family love and strength.

Margaret Deborah Godfrey’s life was a testament to the power of compassion and dedication. Though she has departed this world, the gentle care she showed, the smiles she inspired, and the love she gave remain imprinted in the hearts of all who knew her. In the quiet moments at the beach or in the calm movement of the sea on a cruise, one can still feel the peaceful presence of a truly remarkable woman whose legacy of love and care will never be forgotten.

Care of Margaret has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
