Marlene "Judy"
Townsend
Feb 23, 1944 — Oct 23, 2026
Ball Ground, Georgia
Marlene “Judy” Townsend passed away on October 23, 2026, at the age of 82.
Judy lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought happiness to her days.
Born on February 23, 1944, in Rockcastle, West Virginia, Judy lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought happiness to her days. While in West Virginia, she built a long and respected career in banking, beginning with the Bank of Cross Lanes, which later became part of City National Bank. Over the course of 36 years, she served in many roles and ultimately retired as an internal auditor for the holding company, a reflection of her steady commitment and hard work. After retirement she moved to Ball Ground, GA to be closer to her son and enjoy the warmer weather.
Outside of her career, Judy found great pleasure in life’s adventures and comforts. She enjoyed trying new restaurants, traveling—especially on cruise ships—and spending time with her dogs. These interests spoke to her love of discovery, companionship, and the moments that made life especially meaningful.
She was preceded in death by her father, Kermit Fletcher; her mother, Fay Fletcher; her stepmother, Frieda Fletcher; and her brothers, Arthur Fletcher and Wayne Fletcher.
Judy leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward with affection and gratitude. She is survived by her son, Scott Townsend, and by Leigh, Scott’s fiancée. She is also survived by her brothers, Curtis Fletcher and Roger Fletcher, and by her sister, Patricia Barker. In their sorrow, they also share the comfort of remembering her long life, her faithful work, and the many everyday moments that made her so dear.
These interests spoke to her love of discovery, companionship, and the moments that made life especially meaningful.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held in Ravenswood, West Virginia at a later date. Her memory will remain a blessing to those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers the family request any donations be made to Homeward Bound Pet Rescue at https://www.hbpr.org/donate.html.
Care of Judy has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
