Mary Jo’s presence was a cherished and comforting light in the world of all who knew her.

With deep love and sorrow, we remember and celebrate the life of Mary Jo Wehs, who passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on February 28, 1948, in Rochester, NY, Mary Jo’s presence was a cherished and comforting light in the world of all who knew her.

Mary Jo lived a life defined by her kindness and an unwavering devotion to her family. Her heart was open and gentle, always ready to give her time, wisdom, or encouragement to those who needed it most. Her faith in loved ones, and her simple acts of generosity, made her home a sanctuary where friends felt welcomed and her family felt grounded.

Throughout her life, Mary Jo nurtured passions that brought her joy and inspiration. She found peace and delight among flowers and in the rich earth as an avid gardener, growing more than just plants—she cultivated beauty and solace. Her creativity blossomed in her love for interior decorating, where every room she touched radiated warmth and comfort. Not one to be confined indoors, she also found a sense of adventure and wonder in spelunking, exploring hidden worlds beneath the surface.

Mary Jo was proud of her work at Walmart and First Citizens Bank. In each role, she brought diligence, teamwork, and her signature generosity of spirit—earning not only the respect of her colleagues but also lasting friendships.

She found peace and delight among flowers and in the rich earth as an avid gardener, growing more than just plants.

Her life was blessed by lasting relationships and loving family ties. She is survived by her devoted sons, Brett Wehs and Todd Wehs, whose lives were shaped by her compassion and guidance. Her beloved sister, Janet Kumpf, remains a testament to the strength of sibling bonds that endure life’s changes. Mary Jo’s joy was immeasurably deepened by her grandsons, Brad Thielman and Garet Wehs, who carry forward her affection and kindness in all that they do.

As Mary Jo reunites with those who passed before her—her father, John Whitmore; her mother, Virginia Young; and her dearly missed brothers—her family finds comfort in knowing her love transcends the bounds of this life.

Those who knew Mary Jo Wehs will remember her not only for her passions and accomplishments, but for her profound love and steadfast kindness. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her children, her grandchildren, and her sister, as well as all who were fortunate enough to call her a friend.

Though she has left this earth, the warmth, grace, and beauty she gave so freely will forever remain—a gentle and lasting testament to a life well-lived.
