Melissa Annette Mincey, born on June 26, 1951, in Jacksonville, Florida, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2025, in Ellijay, Georgia. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and joy that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Melissa dedicated her career to serving others, working as a Training Coordinator for Publix. Her work ethic was unmatched, as evidenced by her diverse professional background, which included roles as a bus driver, an employee at Winn Dixie, and an Assistant Manager at Circle K. Her relentless commitment to her work exemplified the hard-working spirit she instilled in those around her.
Described by many as a loving person, Melissa had a laugh that was unforgettable. Her playful spirit often brought joy to those she encountered. Her son recalls a humorous moment when she expressed a desire to visit the "Kenturky Dubby," a phrase that became a source of endearing family laughter over the years.
Her passions extended beyond her career; she was an avid camper and an exceptional cook. Just like her grandmother, Melissa made a name for herself in the kitchen, particularly with her globally renowned Macaroni and Cheese, which was always served without measuring a single ingredient. She had a fondness for hummingbirds, ensuring her home was adorned with feeders to attract them. An ardent animal lover, Melissa's daughter Ashley affectionately noted that her true love was their dog, Minnie, leaving a playful reminder of the affection Melissa had for her furry companions.
Melissa is survived by her devoted husband, Maxwell Mincey, and her beloved children: daughter Ashley Riggin (Nick) and Cindy Whisman (John), and sons Stephen King (Felicia), Corey Mincey, and Wayne Mincey (Robbie). She also cherished her relationships with her 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-laws, Elsie, Coralene, Betsy and Linda.
Melissa was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Harold Starrett; father, Stephen Starrett; and sister, Betzi Patton. Each of them will be remembered in the hearts of those she loved.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of In Their Honor Funeral & Cremation in Fairmount, Georgia. Melissa Annette Mincey’s life was a testament to familial love, hard work, and the importance of laughter. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
