Michael Wayne Tyler, affectionately known as "Mike," was born on January 11, 1959, in Long Beach, California, and passed away on February 15, 2025, at home, in Adairsville, Georgia with his family around him. Throughout his life, Mike lived and traveled in various part of the world, living in countries such as England, Germany, and Japan, along with numerous states across the United States including Maryland, Florida, California, Missouri, and Tennessee. His life journey concluded in Georgia, where he created treasured memories since 2020.
Mike's education began in San Diego, California, before his family relocated to Maryland in 1969. He graduated from Thomas Stone High School in 1977. Shortly after, he embarked on a honorable military career in the Air Force, proudly serving from 1977 until 1997. During his time in service, he played a vital role as a Tech Sergeant Photographer and participated in Operation Desert Storm for six months, protecting our country's freedom.
Mike's personality was as vibrant and multifaceted as the places he lived. He was described as a one-of-a-kind individual whose strength, wisdom, and humor served as an unwavering source of support for his wife, children, and extended family. Known affectionately as "Opa," Mike's profound influence touched the lives of all who knew him. His loved ones recall him fondly, expressing their deep sorrow at his passing but also a hope for our souls being together in Heaven.
An animal lover at heart, Mike's first love was his dogs, who were never far from his side and whom he considered a part of the family. His love extended to motorcycles, which he adored from childhood onward. Mike shared his love for motorcycling with family and friends, riding scenic routes around the world. He took great pride in building and collecting motorcycles over the years, passing this legacy onto his son and grandson, who share his enthusiasm for riding.
Mike enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that included water and snow skiing, racquetball, softball, frisbee, camping, racing, and mountain biking. His love for the ocean, mountains, and the tranquility of the outdoors reflected his zest for life and adventure.In addition to motorcycling, Mike cherished spending time in his shop, where he diligently worked on various projects. His skills were not limited to motorbikes; he also had a passion for clocks, ensuring their delightful chimes resonated throughout his home. A gifted woodworker, he had a knack for creative repurposing and home improvement, demonstrating excellence in every endeavor. Mike was known as Mr. Fix It... there was not anything he couldn't fix or improve!
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debora Lynn (Burt) Tyler; daughter, Kristy Leigh Wines (Mike); son, Michael Allen Tyler (Lindsay); stepdaughter, Abby Lynn Mocek (Ken); stepson, Michael Adam Hirning (Amanda); beloved father, "PopPop" William Franklin Tyler (Chris); grandchildren, Devyn Anita (Nick), Tyler Michael, Ava Jordan, Emmy Leigh; step-granddaughter, Alexa; great-grandson, Jay Wesley; sister, Michelle (Missy) Irene Vermillion (Mike); brothers, John Moniz (Gloria), Steve Allen Moniz; nieces, Candice Blair and Brittany Lorraine along with other nieces and nephews, and great-nephew, Kendi.
Mike was preceded in death by his first wife, Tammy Anita (Walton) Tyler, and his mother, Ingeborg Theresia Tyler.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 29, 2025, at NorthPointe Church, 30 Orchard Rd, Adairsville, GA 30103, starting at 12:00 PM and concluding at 1:00 PM. His family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his remarkable life.
An interment service for Mike's cremains will be held with Military Honors at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery in Maryland. Service details are being finalized, please contact the family for more information.
In lieu of flowers: Mike loved animals, especially dogs, and rescued many of his pets. Please donate and help your local shelters in honor of him.
