Ray Myron Ott, born on February 11, 1940, in Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the age of 85. Ray was a dedicated and respected member of his community, most notably recognized for his distinguished career as a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. After serving two tours in Vietnam, he retired from military service in 1983, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence.

Throughout his life, Ray demonstrated remarkable dedication not only in his military endeavors but also in his personal passions. He was affectionately known as the "Moline Miler," holding the record for long-distance running that highlighted his physical prowess and tenacity. Ray was also an avid enthusiast of antiques, leading him to establish a successful business dealing in high-end antique furniture and paintings. His expertise extended to appraisals, showcasing his deep appreciation for art and history.

Ray was known for his unwavering integrity and commitment to doing everything the right way—qualities that endeared him to family, friends, and colleagues alike. He cherished his family deeply, and his love extended to his beloved fur baby grandchildren, with whom he created many treasured memories.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Cain and her husband Stephen Cain, as well as his nephew, Tim Ott, and his wife Missy. Ray's legacy will continue to live on through the bonds he forged and the love he imparted.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Ott, as well as his parents, Raymond and Marion Mitten Ott, and his siblings, including his brother Tom Ott and sisters Joyce and Carol Lee. Each of these relationships shaped his life and career, and their memories remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

A burial service will be held in his honor on December 29, 2025, at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia, beginning at 1:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather and pay their respects to a man who truly exemplified dedication, love, and integrity in all aspects of his life.
