Roger Charles Thomas

December 23, 1937 – October 26, 2026

Roger Charles Thomas, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2026.

Born on December 23, 1937, in New York, Roger was the son of Charles Raymond Thomas and Katherine Harrington-Howland.

Roger proudly answered the call to serve his country shortly after graduating from high school. On June 22, 1956, he enlisted in the United States National Guard, beginning a chapter of his life marked by dedication, discipline, and commitment to his country.

He completed his initial military training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and continued fulfilling his military responsibilities through regular training exercises in Gouverneur, New York, as well as annual summer training. During his service, Roger demonstrated skill and determination, earning a marksman qualification badge in recognition of his proficiency.

His time in the National Guard reflected a willingness to serve something greater than himself and remains an honorable part of his life’s story.

Roger’s dedication to serving others extended well beyond his military years. He was a major contributor to the construction of his community’s  YMCA, helping establish a place where individuals and families could come together for recreation, fellowship, and personal growth. His contributions helped create opportunities that would benefit others for years to come.

Roger also had a passion for scuba diving and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and skills through scuba diving instruction. By teaching others, he was able to introduce them to the excitement and adventure of exploring the underwater world.

Beyond his military service and community involvement, Roger’s greatest legacy lives on through the family he leaves behind. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Thomas; his children, Natalie Paluck, Ralph Thomas, and Penny DeVille; and his stepchildren, Melissa Johnson, Samantha Cooper, and Melody Phelps.

Throughout his 88 years, Roger experienced a lifetime of memories, milestones, and moments that helped shape the man he became. From his honorable military service to his contributions within the community and his willingness to share his knowledge with others, Roger lived a life that touched those around him.

As his family and friends reflect upon his life, may they find comfort in the memories they shared, the years they were blessed to have together, and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

A life lived, a family loved, and a country served. Roger’s story will not be forgotten.
