It is with heavy hearts and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Roosevelt Howard, Jr., a respected brother, widowed husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, who left this world on January 22, 2026. Born on August 26, 1949, in the town of Goodman, Mississippi.  Roosevelt lived a life of laughter, leadership and devotion to being the best provider to his family, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

A true celebration of life, Roosevelt found joy in nature and in the company of his family and friends. His passion for hunting pheasants and deer not only filled his heart with happiness but also created treasured memories that deepened the bonds he shared with his loved ones. As Worshipful Master at the Masonic Lebanon Lodge #323 in Columbus, Nebraska, he radiated leadership and kindness, inspiring those around him and lighting up every gathering with his presence.

The deep love Roosevelt had for his daughters, JaChiele—known as Shelli—and JaShowne (known as Shawne), along with his son, JaiSon, was immeasurable. His role as a grandfather brought him immense joy; he adored his grandchildren Jordan- known as G, Khauvey, Kheydra, Thomas, Desiree-- known as Desi, Jaia, and Jaiden, each holding a special place in his heart. As a great-grandfather, he delighted in the laughter of little Khelani Legrand, whose spirit mirrored his own vibrant energy.

Roosevelt's unconditional love extended far and wide, encompassing sisters (a couple that took over the maternal role upon their mothers death), brothers, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews (a few he took on a strong fatherly role in their lives; Martuan Johnson), and godchildren (Danielle Johnson and Brittany Johnson).

He leaves behind a grieving family and a community of friends especially his childhood best friend; Troy. They all will carry his memory forever. Their hearts are heavy, especially in the wake of the loss of his beloved wife, Jeralyn Johnson Howard, and his parents, Roosevelt Howard, Sr. and Octavia McGrone Howard.

In a heartfelt farewell, Roosevelt will be cremated, with his ashes lovingly scattered in Goodman, Mississippi—his cherished hometown. A celebration of his remarkable life, filled with love and laughter, will be held later this year.

As we gather to remember Roosevelt, let us hold onto the stories he excitedly shared and the love he imparted to each of us. His legacy will continue to live on in our hearts, a beacon of joy and kindness.

If you wish to honor his memory, donations may be arranged by contacting the family directly. Arrangements have been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
