Russell Carl Hagberg, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world on December 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy rich in service, passion, and love. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on May 21, 1940, Russell grew up in Millbury, Massachusetts, where his journey began, one that would span continents and decades, inevitably embedding his spirit into the very fabric of everyone he encountered.

Russell's academic pursuits were marked by distinction; earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from Clark University in Worcester, he later obtained a Master’s degree from Syracuse University. Upon completing his Bachelor's Degree, he answered the call of duty, joining the United States Air Force as an officer. His military career was robust, culminating in the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Russell's assignments carried him to diverse locales across the globe, from Kaneohe, Hawaii, to St. Louis, Missouri, Dayton, Ohio and beyond, including notable posts in the Marshall Islands, Brazil, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand. Among his proudest achievements was the escorting of several prisoners of war back home after the Vietnam conflict, a testament to his commitment to service and humanity. Among many other commendations, he earned a Bronze Star during his service. He retired from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio after over 20 years of service.

Beyond his formidable career, Russell was a man of many interests. He was a avid tennis player and devoted volunteer at the Cooper Creek Tennis Center in Columbus, Georgia, where he captained many teams. His joy for the sport was palpable; he proudly competed nationally in the US Senior Olympics, embodying both the spirit of competition and camaraderie. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Russell found great pleasure in the culinary arts, particularly baking—so much so that he imparted his knowledge through baking classes in Ohio following his retirement from military life.

Russell is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda (Herron) Hagberg, a steadfast partner who shared in the many chapters of his remarkable life. He is also survived by his devoted daughters, Laura Hemauer (James) and Jennifer Pearman (John), who gifted him with the joy of grandchildren: Duncan Hemauer, Kaitlin Hemauer, Emma Pearman, and Anna Pearman. Each grandchild carried a piece of his heart, and he reveled in their laughter and accomplishments.

He is further survived by his sister, Lois Hagberg of Worcester, Massachussetts, and his brother Stanley Hagberg (Nancy) of Horsham, Pennsylvania, who together with him created cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.

Russell was preceded in death by his father, Carl William Hagberg, and his mother, Ruth Rebecka (Ceder) Hagberg, whose values and love undoubtedly shaped the man he became.

A life well-lived, Russell Carl Hagberg's memory will resonate in the stories shared by those who knew him, celebrated in the laughter of his family, and honored in the community he served and cherished. His spirit will continue to inspire those who strive to lead lives filled with purpose, passion, and unwavering dedication to others.
