Steve will be remembered as a man who found joy in working with his hands, spending time outdoors, and pursuing the interests that meant the most to him.

Steve Joe Brice Mansfield, born December 20, 1945, in Jackson, Tennessee, passed away on August 21, 2026.

Steve will be remembered as a man who found joy in working with his hands, spending time outdoors, and pursuing the interests that meant the most to him. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid hunter and fisherman, pastimes that reflected both patience and a deep appreciation for the world around him. He also had a strong interest in collecting and researching western artifacts and memorabilia, a passion that spoke to his curiosity and love of history. Alongside these longtime interests, Steve was also an avid Xbox gamer, embracing enjoyment and connection in his own distinctive way.

In his early twenties, Steve proudly served for many years in the Tennessee National Guard. His service was an important part of his life and reflected the dedication and commitment he carried into his working years. In his working life, Steve dedicated more than 25 years to CW Mathews, where he served as Bridge Superintendent. His long career reflected commitment, skill, and steady service, and it stands as an important part of the life he built.

Above all, Steve’s life was rooted in family. He is survived by his sons, Steve Mansfield Jr. and his wife, Kathi Erwin Mansfield; Tony Mansfield; and Chris Mansfield; and his daughter, Marilyn Mansfield. He also leaves behind his grandson, R Leigh Mansfield, along with Danielle Mansfield, and their daughters, Ellis Mansfield and Maggie Jo Mansfield. He is also survived by his granddaughter Alexandra Mansfield and her husband, Dan Cyr; as well as many nephews and nieces. Those who knew Steve through his family ties will remember the place he held in their lives and the lasting bond they shared.

He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Mansfield; his mother, Ruby Hill; his brothers, Tommy Mansfield, Donald Mansfield, and Larry Mansfield; and his sisters, Lois Mansfield and Linda Mansfield; and his longtime friend and hunting companion Ben Bryant. 

Steve leaves behind a life defined by hard work, curiosity, independence, and a love for the people and interests that mattered most to him. He will be remembered with love by his family and all who knew him.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at a later date in early fall. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
