Susan Patricia Florence Herbert Moore transitioned to her heavenly home on July 2, 2025, at the age of 86, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Washington, D.C. on June 24, 1939, Sue lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and an unwavering devotion to family and friends. She graduated from Western High School in Georgetown (Washington D.C.) in 1957, and participated in drama, badminton, and volleyball. Described in her yearbook as a “blondie with a peaches and cream complexion”, she was voted as “Best Looking Girl” by her senior class. After graduation, Sue attended the University of Maryland and worked on Capitol Hill for Congress. She was a long-time resident of Roswell GA and Longboat Key, FL.

Sue had a passion for serving others, as evidenced by her volunteer work for several organizations; most notably over 50 years with the Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O.) International, which provides educational scholarships to women. She served in several chapter leadership roles for P.E.O. including President for the Roswell (GA) chapter and as a chapter delegate to both State and International conventions. Sue was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Sue was naturally energetic and outgoing, and helped lead several neighborhood “Newcomer Committees” to introduce new residents to the community. Some of Sue’s closest friends recall that they met her as part of this outreach and how welcomed she made them feel.

In her continued desire to help others, Sue returned to college at the age of 46 and graduated Cum Laude from Kennesaw State (GA) College in 1989 with a Bachelor’s degree in Public and Social Services. She worked for the Cobb County Department of Family and Children Services in Marietta, GA as a senior caseworker and for Manatee County FL as a guardian ad litem.

Sue is survived by her sons, Andrew Given Sharp II and William Stewart Sharp; daughter-in-law Angela Lea Sharp; brother Patrick Lynn Herbert (Eileen); grandchildren Meagan Amanda Sharp, Ashlea Given Sharp and Ansley Grace Sharp; stepdaughters Marlyn “Marni” Moore Miller and Lauri Liljeberg (Mattias); five step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren, and many cherished friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Lt. Colonel Robert Wallace Moore; first husband Robert Andrew Sharp; parents Joseph Gronna Herbert and Patricia MacMillan Curtiss; brothers Joseph Loren Herbert, John Lowell Herbert, and James Edward Herbert; and stepson Robert Wallace Moore, Jr.

To know Sue was to be touched by grace. Her warmth and desire for everyone to feel welcomed and included helped make life better for others. Her caring and kindness were reflected in her work to advocate on behalf of at-risk children and a lifetime of supporting funding for women’s educational scholarships.

A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on September 14, 2025 at the William Root House Museum and Garden in Marietta GA beginning at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend and honor a life beautifully lived. Sue will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to P.E.O. International, an organization very close to Sue’s heart throughout her life.

Sue’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
