Thelma Carol McTaggart, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and a remarkable figure in her community, passed away on June 13, 2025, in Canton, Georgia. Born on June 3, 1944, Thelma lived a life full of love, dedication, and unwavering strength.
Throughout her varied career, Thelma served as a former sheriff's deputy at the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, where she showcased her commitment to her community. Prior to her time at Cherokee County she took on a role in security at Lake Arrowhead, exemplifying her diligence and keen sense of responsibility. Those who knew her appreciated her stern yet nurturing personality; she was a woman of her word, where her "no" meant no, and her "yes" was absolute.
The fabric of Thelma's life was woven with love, particularly for her late husband, Leonard McTaggart. Their relationship was a true testament to love, as she was smitten by him, and he remained her pride and joy until the very end. Together, they shared countless adventures, traveling across the country as truck drivers, embracing the joys of exploration together.
Her greatest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children and grandchildren. Thelma is survived by her devoted daughter, Adriene Blanton; son, George McTaggart; and daughter, Leona Powell (Tim). Additionally, she cherished her grandchildren, including Talma McTaggart and Jamie Kirby (Michelle), along with twelve other grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. These relatives brought her immense happiness and fulfillment. Thelma also leaves behind her brother, Bertum Cash, and sister, Judy Cash, who held a special place in her heart.
Thelma will be remembered for her infectious laughter and her ability to bring joy into the lives of others. As we gather to celebrate her life and the love she shared, we invite family and friends to join us in honoring her memory at a visitation on June 16, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at In Their Honor Funeral & Cremation Providers, located at 2764 US-411, Fairmount, GA 30139.
