Thomas Alfred Cleveland, a distinguished Marine and steadfast pillar of his family, passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2026. Born in the industrious heart of Gary, Indiana, on November 21, 1949, Thomas lived a life rich in service, love, and connection to the natural world around him.

A decorated warrior, Thomas earned two Purple Hearts during his service in the Marine Corps, exemplifying the courage and dedication that defined his character. After hanging up his boots, he transitioned into a long and fulfilling career as a truck driver, proudly bearing the colors of the Teamsters. The open road became an extension of his spirit, as he swiftly navigated both highways and the many adventures life had to offer.

At the core of Thomas's being was his immense love for family. He cherished his role as an amazing husband to Connie Cleveland, with whom he shared 47 beautiful years filled with laughter and companionship. He was a devoted father to Wendy and her husband Bill Morris, Thomas J. Cleveland, and Rebecca and her husband Daniel Koladin. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Christopher and his wife Kayleigh Hunt, Mathew Millard, Alana Gifford, Andrew Hunt, Eilish Morris, Jaden Frank, and Malaki Morris. His great-grandchildren—Bryson, Braden, Kane, Lucas, Caleb, and Cameron—were the light of his later years, filling his heart with joy and hope for the future.

Beyond his family, Thomas had a profound appreciation for the simple pleasures of life. He adored fishing, often finding solace at the water’s edge, where he could quietly reflect on the beauty of nature. Woodworking was not just a hobby; it was an art form through which he crafted gifts of love and memories that would last a lifetime. Gardening was another passion, as he nurtured flourishing plants that mirrored the growth he instilled in those around him. A lover of trains and nature alike, Thomas reveled in the tranquility of the great outdoors, where he felt most at home.

Thomas is also survived by his sister, Kathy, and her husband, Ron Lambert. His spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know this remarkable man.

He joins the memory of his beloved mother, June Marie Cleveland, and his brother, Richard Cleveland, in an eternal reunion that brings comfort to those left behind.

A celebration of Thomas’s life will be planned for a later date, providing friends and family the opportunity to come together to honor a man who was truly a rock to his family and a mountain to many. In his passing, while we mourn the loss of such an incredible presence, we also remember the indelible joy and steadfast love that he brought into our lives.

Care of Thomas has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
