Thomas Bernard Spehar, age 83, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 19, 2026, with his beloved wife, Susan, by his side. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of hard work, craftsmanship, and devotion to family will continue to live on.

Born on February 23, 1943, Thomas lived a life marked by dedication, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for creating things with his own hands. An accomplished woodworker, he found great joy in transforming raw materials into works of beauty and purpose. In his spare time, he lovingly rebuilt his small home in Coconut Grove, Florida, and later poured that same passion into crafting the beautiful barn interior at his home in Jasper, Georgia—a reflection of both his skill and pride in a job well done.

Thomas was a proud member of the first graduating class of Florida Atlantic University, an achievement that reflected his commitment to education and personal growth. He went on to dedicate 33 years of service to Miami-Dade County’s Planning and Zoning Department, where his knowledge, professionalism, and work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and community members alike. Through decades of public service, he helped shape the growth and development of one of Florida’s largest communities.

While Thomas valued hard work, he also treasured life’s simple blessings: a well-built project, a peaceful day at home, and time spent with those he loved. He possessed a quiet strength, a generous spirit, and an unwavering determination that inspired those around him. His hands built more than homes and woodworking projects—they built a life filled with purpose, integrity, and love.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Roman and Mary Lee Spehar.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loyal friend, a skilled craftsman, and a man who left every place he touched a little better than he found it. Those who knew him will cherish memories of his wisdom, his steady presence, and the pride he took in creating and caring for the things he loved.

Though his earthly journey has come to an end, the impact of his life remains etched in the hearts of his family and friends and in the structures he built with care and dedication. His legacy will endure through the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

The family will announce service arrangements at a later date.
