Thomas John Vasil (Tommy), 71, of Rome recently passed away at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Hammond, Indiana, Tommy was an alumnus of East Rome High School in Rome, Georgia and earned a Behavioral Science degree from Berry College. He had many jobs throughout the course of his life including financial sales, Heating and Air Technician, and in his later years, a bus driver for adults with disabilities.

Tommy had exquisite musical taste and “better than average” mechanical ability. When he wasn’t jamming to his own beat on the drums, he was finding creative ways to keep the engines running. He was an avid reader that never stopped learning, and his homemade craft beer was the best around. He played in several bands in his younger years, including Midtown Rush and The Bedlam Brothers with his brother Steve. Friends will remember him fondly for his creative mix tapes as well as his impassioned phone conversations.

Tommy was preceded in death by his brother, Harvey Vasil and his mother Ann Leppert Vasil. Surviving him are his father, Tom Vasil, Sr., His sister, Carol Vasil Taylor (Robert), his brother, Steve Vasil (Kim), nieces and nephews, Rob Taylor (Gabriela), Paul Taylor (Ariel), Rebekah Taylor-Wiseman (Bradley), Hughston Vasil (Rebeca), and Emma Vasil, as well as nine great-nieces and nephews. Tommy also loved his buddies and reveled in tales of the “good ol days.”

Donations in his honor can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/

Care of Tommy has been entrusted to In Their Honor Funeral and Cremation Providers.
