Graveside Service
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Virginia Lucille Lee, lovingly known as Jenny, passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice at Emory St. Joseph’s early Friday morning, January 2, 2026. She was born on May 20, 1937, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, to Mary (Allen) Carter, and was the sister of Charles (Gene) and Billy Carter.
Jenny’s life was a testament to resilience, hard work, and deep devotion to family. She spent most of her life in Lawrenceville and Grayson, remaining close to her mother, brother Billy, and the extended Allen family. Though she married several times and had no children of her own, Jenny poured her love into all the many children in the Carter and Allen families. Known for her spitfire personality, Jenny brought laughter and warmth wherever she went.
Though her formal education ended after the seventh grade, Jenny never let that limit her. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, running a restaurant in her early years and later working at the Lawrenceville Inn, the Lawrenceville Auto Auction, cleaning houses, and most notably, spending many years at her favorite job—the Waffle House.
Gardening was one of Jenny’s greatest passions. She and her mother often competed at local farmers markets, proudly winning ribbons for their produce. She especially loved her tractor and famously rode it through the streets of Lawrenceville with a police escort to Waffle House on her birthday. Jenny also had a great love for animals and cared for many pets over the years, especially dogs, cats, and birds.
After the passing of her mother and youngest brother, Jenny moved to Virginia to be near her brother Gene and his family. Over the next 20 years, she lived in Elliston, Radford and Salem, continuing to work in restaurants and remaining active in church life. Following retirement, she moved to Richfield in Salem, where she made many friends, played Bingo regularly, and lived independently for many years. As dementia progressed, Jenny returned to Georgia to be closer to family who could care for her.
Though her life was humble, it was rich in love, laughter, and meaningful connections.
Jenny was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Carter, and her brothers, Billy and Charles (Gene) Carter.
A small graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 1375 New Hope Road, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045.
