Marietta Choyce

Marietta Pendley (Perkins) Choyce, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to be, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, in Jasper, Georgia, at the age of 87. Marietta was born on October 19, 1936, in Atlanta, Georgia, to George Edwin Perkins and Nellie E. Pendley. She grew up in a vibrant Atlanta during the mid-20th century, a time that would shape her into the resilient and loving matriarch she became.


Marietta pursued her education with passion, earning a Bachelor's degree in Consumer Science from the University of Georgia, where she was a proud member of the Phi Mu sorority. She later obtained a graduate degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University, reflecting her dedication to nurturing young minds and her commitment to education.
On July 22, 1961, Marietta married Thomas Fuller Choyce, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised four wonderful children. Together, they welcomed their first son, George Llewellyn, followed by their daughter, Elizabeth, and their two sons, Michael Thomas and Christopher Brian. Marietta's dedication to her family was unwavering, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting impact on each of her children.


Marietta was a devoted wife to her husband, Thomas, until his passing on March 6, 2024. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and a deep companionship that spanned over six decades. Marietta's strength and love shone brightly, especially since her husband's passing.
She is survived by her four children, who will carry forward her legacy of kindness and strength. Marietta was also a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, her three sons, and her sister, Janelle Hammes, whose lives she touched profoundly.


Marietta's presence will be missed in the lives of her family and friends. Her journey through life was defined by her love for those around her and her commitment to family values. A memorial service will be held on October 19, 2024, at the Holy Family Episcopal Church in Jasper, Georgia, to honor her remarkable life, celebrating the joy she brought to everyone she met.
